Before you Quit your Job, Ask Yourself This Question

Don’t be in a rush to ditch your job, even if it stinks.

So, your job stinks, it makes you miserable, and worse yet, it’s not leading you anywhere. If this describes your current employment situation, maybe it’s time for a change. However, in the current economy, letting go of a job can oftentimes be a bad idea. Even when you are moving to apparently greener pastures, you should still ask yourself a few key questions before saying goodbye to your current boss.

Patty McCord, the former Chief Talent Officer at Netflix, recommends that both employers and employees ask a few questions before any decisions are made. Both sides should ask “Is this what this person loves to do, that they’re extraordinarily good at doing, and something we need someone to be great at?”

This is the kind of question you have to ask yourself if you want to know if you’re making a big mistake. Of course, if your answers to these questions are all positive, than your coworkers’ answers should be at least somewhat in line with yours. In any case, the main lesson is that quitting your job is a big decision, so you need to consider your long-term prospects and how your current job will help you get there.
