Avoid Drowning In Debt!

Hot water is often one of the biggest energy expenses in your home. Yes, you heard that right. So, how can you cut down on water usage and avoid drowning in debt?

  • Let’s start in the kitchen:
  1. Dishwasher: When using the dishwasher select the shortest cycle. This will help reduce your hot water time. You will use less water and lower your energy cost in the long run. For even better savings, make use of the booster heater. Typically, water in excess of 100 degrees is used for thorough cleaning in a cycle. Instead of setting the water heater on high you can use a booster heater for just the water used in the wash cycle. This will then allow you to lower the water heater temperature! It’s that simple!
  2. Sink (garbage disposal): People tend to use hot water in the operation; however, in reality there really is no need for this at all. Switch to cold and you wont be grinding up your dollars along with the scraps.
  • The bathroom:
  1. Toilet: The average toilet flush uses about 1.6 gallons of water. That’s a lot! Try putting something heavy in the tank above the bowl. This will produce major savings in the long run.
