Another Record Breaking Box Office Weekend Is Ahead

This weekend, two films are expected to clash head-to-head, or symbiote-to-singer as both Tom Hardy’s “Venom” and Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper’s “A Star Is Born” are set to debut to exceptional opening weekends. “Venom” is the long-awaited antihero that comes from Marvel’s Spider-Man universe, while “A Star Is Born” is another remake of classic love story filled with heart, romance, and song.

Currently, “Venom” is the movie that’s on track to smash a box office record, but not without “A Star Is Born” giving it a run for its money. The MCU movie is expected to make anywhere between $55 million and $85 million according to BoxOffice Pro, with the most likely median being around $63 million. Regardless of where it falls in those margins, that will be the largest American box office opening for a movie in the month of October in domestic film history.

The previous record holder, “Gravity” with George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, made just shy of $56 million in October. The only reason that “Venom” might not make the cut is because the film has been getting generally mixed to negative reviews. Currently, critics are belittling the film for its lack of story and depth which Marvel films seem to focus on nowadays. Could that be enough for Lady Gaga’s film to swoop in and steal the prize?
